EPREL

ElektroG is a mandatory register for sellers introducing electrical and electronic products to the German market.

When a seller’s offer is subject to ElektroG registration, the WEEE number must be entered in the Seller Central panel by December 31, 2022, to confirm participation in the ElektroG / WEEE / ZSEE system:

At the moment (as of 10.10.2022), it’s not yet possible to add the WEEE number, but it’s expected that this option will appear soon.

From January 1, if there’s no WEEE number, Amazon will be legally obligated to suspend non-compliant offers.

It’s worth noting that the obligation to participate in the German ElektroG system isn’t new. For many years, sellers have been required to register their devices in ElektroG. However, it’s only from 2023 that Amazon will be obligated to verify whether a seller has a valid ElektroG number.

Therefore, even if you don’t sell on Amazon, but for example on eBay.de, Kaufland.de, or Otto.de, you still have an obligation to register with ElektroG.

The ElektroG register is public, and anyone can verify if the number provided by a seller is correct.

Sellers introducing products qualifying for ElektroG to the German market without a WEEE number face severe penalties. These range from an Abmahnung of about 1000 euros per product to official fines of up to several hundred thousand euros.

A company based outside Germany must have a representative in Germany. This representation service is usually provided by ElektroG system operators.
